Why This Purple Cruiser Gets Noticeably More Attention Outdoors Than In Studio Photos

If you spend ten minutes scrolling through bike sites, you’ll notice that almost every beach cruiser looks the same. They’re usually painted in the same flat pastel blues, seafoam greens, or soft pinks.

And honestly, when we first took the studio product shots for our Urban Ladies Purple, it looked pretty standard on a white background.

But things changed when we started unboxing them at our warehouse and rolling them out onto the grass under real sunlight.

🌳 What Studio Lights Miss: The Real Color Shift

The photo above wasn’t taken by a professional marketing agency with softboxes or heavy filters. It’s just one of our builds sitting on the grass at a local neighborhood park on a Saturday afternoon.

And that’s exactly where this colorway comes alive.

In a studio, it just looks like a dark purple frame. But out in the sun, the metallic flakes in the paint actually catch the light, shifting the color from a deep, rich violet in the shade to a bright amethyst under direct sunlight. When you pair that with the classic white-wall tires and the clean black saddle, the paint has noticeably more depth outdoors than what most studio photos capture.

We’ve had multiple riders who originally came to us looking for a traditional mint green bike change their minds on the spot after seeing the purple version outdoors. It’s a color that feels unique without feeling overly flashy.

🚲 The 3-Speed Reality: Dealing with Local Hills and Coastal Air

Another thing we talk about a lot with riders in the shop is gears. A lot of people think a beach cruiser has to be a single-speed. And if you are only riding on a completely flat, two-mile stretch of concrete right next to the sand, a single-speed is perfect.

But most of our customers aren’t just riding on the sand. They’re riding through neighborhood parks, crossing overpass bridges, or dealing with unexpected headwinds on the way back from a coffee shop.

That’s why we put a 3-speed internal gear hub on this model.

If you hate the look of messy derailleurs, cables, and clunky gears hanging off the back of your bike, you’ll appreciate this setup. The shifting mechanism is completely sealed inside the rear wheel hub.

  • You can change gears while stopped at a red light (which you can’t do on a traditional 21-speed).

  • It keeps the clean, minimalist look of the frame intact.

  • Sand, dirt, and salt air can’t get inside to rust the gears.

It gives you just enough help to climb that annoying incline on your way home without making the bike complicated to maintain.

🏡 Who Is This Bike Actually For?

We designed the Urban Ladies frame with a low step-through bar for a very practical reason: comfort. If you’re loading a basket full of groceries, or if you just want to go for a casual evening ride without having to awkwardly swing your leg over a high metal bar, this geometry makes sense.

It’s built for riders who want a reliable, comfortable bike for weekend errands, park cruises, and casual paths—but want a color that they won't see five other versions of at the local bike rack.

If you’re tired of the same old pastel trends and want to see how the metallic finish looks on your own street, you can check out the full specs below.
